Dr Matt’s Newsletter May 29th – Tina Turner: Aging with Grace
Supporting healthy social interactions and diversity of health choices
Here are the topics in today’s newsletter:
Inspiration and Music of the week – Tina Turner credited her daily prayer and meditation practicing with stabilizing her life and allowing her to thrive well into old age. She died five days ago, on May 24, 2023. In her final years she made several albums with a Tibetan mantra singer and a Christian music therapist that were dedicated to spiritual practices of daily prayer and meditation.
Research of the week: Another challenge to antidepressants. People often credit them with miraculous effects, but actually it is their own inner healing power at work. Because antidepressants sometimes push people sharply in the wrong direction, a better plan is to encourage natural, non-drug mind-body-spirit approaches such as daily prayer, daily meditation, regular exercise, healthy nutrition, and perhaps some in-person therapy. This discussion will be postponed until later this week due to time demands, but two prior newsletters mentioned them. September 28th in the research section on the placebo effect, and last week on May 21st during the discussion of the “placebo vaccine”.
Politics “Not as Usual” – Sound bites from RFK Jr and Joseph Ladapo, as well as longer interviews to get the “whole meal”. You will note that I have again placed both a Republican and Democrat together. To me what party someone says they belong to is a minor part of their character. The first thing I want to know is what their plan is to help us reduce suffering in the world, including in the people closest to them. It is sad that pharmaceutical products are even considered as a main approach for this work, and both of them challenge this paradigm quite strongly, each in their own way. Lifestyle changes and other natural approaches for mind-body spirit healing are the first places to invest time, energy, and resources, and you will see that Ladapo and RFK Jr definitely agree.

Inspiration and Music of the week –Anna Mae Bullock (aka Tina Turner) and her spiritual albums, “Beyond”.
My selections from Tina Turner today come from the spiritual music I mentioned above. Most people know her for her fun and entertaining antics on stage, her R&B and pop hits, and her beautiful voice. A few people know something completely different. Her real name, “Anna Mae”, for example, and how she struggled to free herself from unhealthy relationships and a childhood of abandonment. If you have dug a bit deeper, you will know that for the last 50 years of her life she practiced a daily Buddhist prayer meditation which she credited with stabilizing her and allowing her, in her own words, “to be happy“.
Every religion has problems, just as all human endeavors do, including some very serious ones. This comes with the territory of being human. However, I prefer to celebrate the ways people cope and navigate through these problems, and one thing that helps many people find their path is a daily prayer and meditation practice.
As Anna Mae got older, this spiritual side of her life grew in importance. Perhaps she realized that her spiritual self was the best gift to the people around her, a gift that would continue after her life was over. That could be why she made several music albums centered in prayer and spirituality during the last 15 years of her life, starting right after her last live concert in 2009. In these albums, all starting with the word, “Beyond”, she joined with Tibetan mantra singer Dechen Shak-Dagsay and Christian music therapist Regula Curti. The last selection below is an interview with Anna Mae about the Beyond albums and about her spiritual practice which helped her emerge through the traumas of her life.
I find this type of music helps me put my emotions in the backseat and experience things a bit more directly, which is also a type of spiritual practice :-).

Joseph Ladapo: Florida Surgeon General
The first clip is a short section of a speech where he mentions one of my favorite subjects: the negative efficacy of “covid vaccines”. My readers know this issue extremely well because I have covered it in multiple newsletters, most recently on May 21st. However, few people mention it and Joseph Ladapo is a notable exception.
Shouldn’t this information be front and center in government inquiries? Shouldn’t this lead to the resignation of CEO’s at Pfizer and Moderna? Walensky and Fauci have already announced their resignantions, but shouldn’t they be held accountable? The World health Organization is in the process of trying to establish more power to mandate vaccines for countries and to mandate “vaccine passports” when they unilaterally claim a “health emergency” exists. They are having meetings as I write this, and I recommend writing your representatives, as I have done, asking them to support bills introduced on the House and Senate to separate the USA from the WHO.
Stated plainly, many studies around the world have found that people who get the “covid vaccines” are more likely to test positive on the “covid tests” – the exact opposite of what the vaccines are supposed to do! Also, the claims that they reduce hospitalizations and deaths are due to statistical sleight of hand.
However, the worst aspect of all of this, at least to me, is that fear of infection disrupts healthy caregiving. A better public health strategy is to encourage and support caregivers, and to reassure people that when they take care of each other we will all be healthier, no matter what “super-virus” is in the news.
This topic makes great dinner conversation. If you are moved to mention “negative efficacy” you might need a deep breath to listen mindfully and to the responses that may even include defensive disbelief and anger. Although you can offer to send people more information such Ladapo’s talk or my newsletter research sections, the main reason to say something is to express yourself, not to expect anyone to change their minds.
Ladapo brief section of a talk on the “Terrible safety profile” and negative efficacy of covid vaccines from a recent study in the medical journal, Lancet. He says they are “more likely to get covid-19” but I prefer to say they are “more likely to test positive on the ‘covid tests’ ” - yes there is a difference...
Ladapo Full Interview on “Ask Dr Drew” from several months ago.
Ladapo talks about how seeing the catastrophic “public health” response and cover-up of the last 3 years caused him to wake up about how harmful the pharmaceutical-vaccine paradigm was. In addition to the covid-19 vaccine adverse effects and efficacy problems, he is asked to talk about how he helped Florida change its policies. He also talks about how the sexual abuse he suffered as a child stayed with him in “in his body’s muscles, tendons, and organs” and how he worked through his fear and shame with help from his wife and a health coach. He was helped by mind-body-spirit healing approaches and has been an advocate of lifestyle changes and healthy living for many years.
RFK Jr - Environmental lawyer and presidential candidate
Brief section of an interview that focuses on how medical journals are funded by pharmaceutical companies, and how they have become “utterly corrupt”. He discusses what he would do in his first days as president: call the journal editors into his office with his attorney general present to demand that they restore integrity and stop all pharmaceutical funding.
