Supporting healthy social interactions and diversity of health choices
Newsletter update: I have difficulty getting out these newsletters in a timely fashion, and in the future I plan to send much shorter updates as news and events appear.
Today’s newsletter sections include:
Christmas Covid story part two: Dr. Matt has an anxiety attack with worry that our 94 year old hospice patient was “heading to the light” during an extended solitary confinement after a positive “covid test”.
Local talk on homeopathy: Two local homeopaths, Ioana Razi MD and David Wember MD will be speaking at the Children’s Health Defense meeting on Thursday March 21st at 10am in Washington DC at the Busboys and Poets, 450 K St.. There is limited space, so if you can make it please reach out to Noelle Callahan at noelle.callahan@childrenshealthdefense.org
Music of the week – Classical guitar by Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz and a playful piano sonata by Beethoven.
Research of the week – An 8 week mindfulness group program, described below, will be offered in my office in September. Retired psychiatrist from Georgetown University Hospital, Paul Jones MD, will lead the course. He has been doing these MBSR courses for over twenty years and usually charges $550 per person. However, if people have financial hardship such as debts they have difficulty repaying, the fee can be reduced on a case-by-case basis. There is limited space so please email after looking into the three links below if you are interested.
Health and Spirituality of the Week: As a bonus at the very end, an introduction to Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity home in the mountains of Kentucky which provides “whole-hearted free service to the poorest of the poor,” including present moment mindful attention to the person in front of you. I have enjoyed visiting hospice patients in the Missionaries of Charity home in Northeast DC, and the sisters actually have a lot of fun, contrary to what many would expect :-). If anyone wants to organize a volunteer group there, please send me an email.
10 K run in Alexandria – I cannot make the Parkway Classic 10 miler this year because I will be in Japan, but you can join me and a few friends for a 10K run in Fort Hunt Park on March 17th, St Patrick’s Day. Drinking a pint of Guinness and a group photo after the run is optional, but allowing Dr. Matt to point out the Bald Eagle’s nest through the trees is obligatory. Let me know when you are signed up. https://www.runwashington.com/events/2024-dcrrc-fort-hunt-10k-6405/
